FC 26 release window confirmed and Liga MX back to FC
EA Sports has confirmed the EA FC 26 release window, giving players an idea of when to expect its release.
The EA Sports FC series has had a bumpy start. EA FC 24, the first instalment of EA Sports ' newest game series, received a mixed reception from the community. After receiving some of the worst reviews we've seen at launch, EA FC 25 started to find its feet in 2025 thanks to a handful of much-needed gameplay updates.
With the TOTS promo now live in EA FC 25 Ultimate Team, it's a sign that we're approaching the end of the EA FC 25 lifecycle, and with the latest EA Sports FC release improving in the latter months, players are starting to feel more optimistic about the upcoming EA FC 26 release. There were rumours earlier this year of the EA FC 26 release date being moved forward a whole month, but EA has now confirmed the EA FC 26 release window.
No new details regarding EA FC 26 have been published by EA officially, but we do now know what quarter of the year the game will be hitting shelves.
EA FC 26 release window confirmed
EA recently published its Q4 and FY25 Results, where, as well as its "strong finish" to the year financially, the new releases for the upcoming quarter were published. Alongside other games like College Football 26, Madden NFL 26 and NHL 26, EA confirmed that EA FC 26 will be released in Q2 of the publisher's financial year, meaning it will be released sometime between July 1, 2025, and September 30, 2025.
If we had to predict when EA FC 26 will be released, we would expect the game to receive a worldwide release on September 26, 2025, the last Friday of September, which has been the trend that EA has followed in recent years. The rumours of an August release date seemed very ambitious.
If EA FC 26 were to be released a month in advance, then we'd probably have seen the EA FC 25 Ultimate Team release schedule start slowing down by now. Also, with GTA 6 being delayed until May 2026, the huge panic of clashing with this gargantuan release may have cooled down, so we don't expect EA to rush the release of EA FC 26.
Liga MX back to FC26
After a four-year hiatus due to an exclusive licensing agreement with Konami, a fan-favourite league could be usable again in EA FC 26.
As we enter the summer months, all attention is starting to turn towards the next instalment of the EA Sports FC series, with EA Sports set to release its latest title, EA FC 26, later this year. EA FC 25 is still in full swing with the highly anticipated Shapeshifters promo going live in Ultimate Team soon, but it's hard not to turn our heads towards EA FC 26, with some early leaks and rumours already starting to circulate.
A host of EA FC 26 details, including an earlier release date, were seemingly leaked in April, while we've also seen an image of the rumoured EA FC 26 logo circulating on social media in recent weeks. But now, Konami has confirmed that one of its exclusively licensed leagues will be removed from eFootball, opening up the pathway for a new league to be added to EA FC 26.
New league in line for EA FC 26 return
After joining forces with Konami in 2022, the top division of Mexican football, Liga MX, is no longer exclusively licensed to eFootball, with the Japanese company confirming in a recent update that the league, along with all of its teams, will be removed from the game.
This is the full list of teams from Liga MX that will be removed from eFootball this month:
- Ciudad de Mexico AB
- Pachuca de Soto BA
- Puebla AB
- Toluca de Lerdo RB
- Jalisco RN
- Monterrey AB
- Comarca Lagunera VB
- Tijuana RN
- Leon de los Aldamas VB
- Queretaro BA
- Aguascalientes RB
- Ciudad Juarez VN
- San Luis Potosi RB
- Mazatlan MN
Liga MX last featured in FIFA 22, with the league being removed in FIFA 23 due to its agreement with Konami. There have been some cult-hero Ultimate Team items in the past from Liga MX that plenty of Ultimate Team players would've used and loved, including TOTS Andre-Pierre Gignac in FIFA 19, Silver star Luis Perea in FIFA 14, FUT Birthday Keisuke Honda in FIFA 18, and the late Christian Benitez in FIFA 12.
Right now, there are a few names you'll likely recognise from Liga MX that will be set for an Ultimate Team return if it is added for EA FC 26, including Georgios Giakoumakis, Lucas Ocampos, Sergio Canales, Salomon Rondon, Jonathan Dos Santos, and Sergio Ramos.
And of course, who can forget the Pumas UNAM kits that were like gold dust in the early days of Ultimate Team? If Liga MX does return, it will be a fantastic addition.
